Engineering Report

 

Borough of West Cape May

 

            USDA FY2003 Water & Sewer Replacement Project – Remote Water Meter Reading System:

  • Status: 

 

  • USDA has been given preliminary approval to use their funds for the purchasing of the necessary hardware, software and meters. 
  • A meeting was held between the Borough and the City of Cape May to develop an intermunicipal agreement relative to sharing the remote water meter reading system.  Negotiations are underway.

 

  • System supplier has prepared equipment cost estimate for related equipment costs.  This information is essential to establishing the final scope off work to be completed.  Remington, Vernick & Walberg is working with Mark Blauer to determine the maximum amount of available funding.  Meeting was held with USDA Friday, January 11, 2008, to establish the procedure to move forward.  RV&W to prepare Scope of Work, to maximize the use of remaining USDA funds, and bidding process and forward to USDA for approval.  Additional work including replacement of pump station pumps and installation of meters by Contractor to be added to the contract.  Remington, Vernick & Walberg will then send a formal request letter to USDA for approval.
  • Borough has drafted technical specifications for the installation of the water meter.  Remington, Vernick & Walberg to review the specifications and develop the appropriate construction documents for bidding purposes.

 

            ADA Upgrades for the Municipal Building:

 

  • Scope of Work:  Modify the Municipal Building Complex and make it ADA compliant through upgrades to:  Parking area for spaces, sidewalks and ramps; Entrance and access doors including hardware throughout building; Accessible route to connect all accessible spaces;  Counter top and service window areas;  Alarm system including pull stations and visible strobes;  Bathrooms, drinking fountains and showers.

 

  • Status: 
  • All work is satisfactorily completed.
  • Contractor has satisfactorily completed all punchlist items.
  • Remington, Vernick & Walberg is preparing final close out paper work. 
  • Final payment requisition will be forwarded to the Borough for review.

 

USDA FY2004 Water & Sewer Replacement Project - “Phase 2”:

  • Status: 

 

  • Work to be completed:
  • One item remains on the punchlist for the Wenzel property.  There is a 3-4 foot long, 1-2 foot wide area of disturbed stone adjacent to the dumpster requiring restoration.
  • Mr. Wenzel was on-site February 14, 2008 to confirm the work was done as agreed upon.  This work included driveway repair and installation of property markers.  Contractor hired Land Surveyor.  Land Surveyor found the two subject concrete monuments.  The monuments were buried and had not been removed.  The Land Surveyor installed two additional pins.
  • No final payment to be made until all work is completed and accepted.

 

            NJDOT Municipal Aid:  

 

  • Grant application has been approved by NJDOT in the amount of $143,000.00.   Work includes reconstruction of Sixth Avenue beginning at CR 607 (Bayshore Road) and proceeding easterly.
  • The contract has been awarded to Albrecht & Heun, Inc.
  • NJDOT is reviewing the storm sewer replacement change order.  The Borough has requested NJDOT approval to use the entire grant amount by awarding the Change Order to Albrecht & Heun, Inc.
  • Remington, Vernick & Walberg requested a letter from the Borough Solicitor supporting a change order to exceed the 20% maximum contract amount increase necessary to replace the storm sewer and expend 100% of the NJDOT grant amount.  If agreed to, by the Borough Solicitor, Remington, Vernick & Walberg will prepare the necessary change order and direct the Contractor to begin work.

 

            Park Boulevard Bike Path:  (no change from January 23, 2008 Engineering Report)

  • Bids opened January 9, 2008.
  • Awaiting NJDOT approval to award expected by March 3, 2008.
