MINUTES OF BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
WORK SESSION AND REGULAR MEETING
June 24, 2009
The Work Session of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of West Cape May was called to order by Mayor Kaithern at 1:00 PM. The Open Public Meetings Statement was read by Mayor Kaithern who then led those present in the flag salute. Mayor Pamela Kaithern, Deputy Mayor Peter Burke, and Commissioner Ramsey Geyer answered roll call. Also in attendance: Borough Clerk Elaine Wallace, Deputy Clerk Kate Kilian, and Borough Solicitor Christine Cote’.
CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION – Tony Genaro – D.A.R.E. Commissioner Ramsey Geyer presented a certificate to Tony Genaro for the hard work that he did with the children of West Cape May Elementary school for the D.A.R.E. program. Mayor Kaithern commended him for being a role model for all the children of the Borough.

WORK SESSION
OLD BUSINESS
Liquor License: The Board will review the previously drafted ordinance for liquor license regulations, but will not take any action on it until after the commercial zoning ordinance is considered for adoption.
NEW BUSINESS
400th Anniversary Celebration Commemorative Newspaper: Mayor Kaithern received a request for sponsorship of a newspaper and/or book. The Borough has already sponsored the celebration by purchasing a banner and giving them a space at the Farmers Market. As Commissioner of Public Events, Mr. Geyer will look into a small newspaper ad and a page in the book.
REVIEW OF REGULAR MEETING: Mayor Kaithern reviewed the Consent Agenda and Non-Consent agenda items.
The Work Session portion of the meeting was adjourned at 1:31 PM and the Regular Meeting convened at 1:35 PM.
CONSENT AGENDA: On motion of Commissioner Geyer, seconded by Deputy Mayor Burke, the following Consent Agenda was unanimously approved on roll call vote.

NON-CONSENT AGENDA:

COMMISSIONERS REPORTS:
Commissioner Geyer gave a report on the activities of the Volunteer Fire Company, including a joint water rescue drill with Cape May Point and Cape May City as part of ongoing interagency training activities. The next training will be held by West Cape May on use of the aerial ladder truck. Mr. Geyer thanked the members of all volunteer fire companies because they give of their time to learn to respond to emergencies. Lastly, he announced the Police will begin focusing on helmet use for bikers and skateboarders.
Commissioner Burke announced the Borough will host a Red Cross blood drive in August, most likely on the 13th. He also announced that Charlotte Daily, host of the annual West Cape May Christmas Parade, was recognized by the State with a Jefferson Award for Public Service. There were about 20 recipients for 2009. He suggested having some type of benefit to help raise funds for the Christmas Parade during which the Borough could present her with it’s own certificate of recognition for all the work she’s done over the years.
Mayor Kaithern announced the new recycling truck was delivered, purchased through the County grant program in 2008. The mini-compactor made recycling day much easier and has increased safety for the public works employees. She also announced that she received verbal confirmation that the Lukas v. West Cape May Planning/Zoning Board was decided by the court and the Board decisions were upheld.

The meeting was recessed into closed session at 1:49 PM and reconvened at 3:45 PM on motion of Deputy Mayor Burke, seconded by Commissioner Geyer and carried unanimously on roll call vote
When no one else wished to speak the meeting was adjourned at 3:47 PM on motion of Deputy Mayor Burke, seconded by Commissioner Geyer.
