West Cape May awards new contract for trash and recycling collection saving Taxpayers
The Borough of West Cape May has awarded a five year residential trash contract to Blue Diamond Disposal, Inc., beginning in January 2011. Recycling will also be completed by Blue Diamond, with both collections taking place on Wednesdays, beginning January 5th. Mayor Pam Kaithern reports that officials hope the new schedule will be more convenient for residents.
In addition, the cost savings are substantial. "In year five of the new contract, West Cape May will be paying substantially less for trash and recycling than we are paying currently for trash alone," stated Mayor Kaithern, The Department of Public Works is in the process of planning for borough wide organic waste pickup. Details will be forthcoming.
Residents who previously purchased 96 gallon trash receptacles will be able to continue utilizing these cans or other cans currently in use. Those interested in obtaining 96 gallon cans may contact Blue Diamond directly for lease details at 609-861- 4700.
